HL Chinese Restaurant
Imaginary Chinese
In Hanoi, it feels strange to go to a Japanese restaurant designed by non-Japanese architect.
Vietnamese people will feel the same when they go to a Vietnamese restaurant designed by Japanese in Japan.
This time we designed a Chinese restaurant. I think it would look strange if the Chinese saw this.
But I don’t think it’s a bad thing.
Design is culture.
In particular, restaurant design is required to represent the culture of the country in which the food was born, as well as the food that most clearly represents the cultural differences of each country.
However, unless you are a historian, it is difficult and unlikely that you need to fully understand and express different cultures.
All you need to do is understand that there are different things.
This is a restaurant planned in a building with a magnificent view of the sea.
From the closed and dense atmosphere of the entrance, it opens as you go deeper, and at the table seats by the window, you can enjoy meal as if you were one with the sea.
The Chinese design is like a space-filling air prepared for those who enjoy the food and scenery at that time in this place.
An imaginary Chinese created with our understanding and interpretation, and with respect for 4000 years of culture.
